It is now possible to obtain the long-awaited Lunar gold coin for the year of the Pig, the last of a famous 12-year series of gold coins with designs based on the characters from the Chinese calendar.

The Australian state-owned treasury, Perth Mint, started to produce the Lunar collection in 1996, the year of the Rat. The first full circle will have been completed in 2007 – the year of the Pig. Coins for some years like the years of the Dragon, the Horse and the Snake have already been completely sold out and they are only available on the secondary market with some 15-35% mark-up on the market price of gold. Lunar gold coins are therefore a useful investment and a special gift at the same time.

Investment

Australian Lunar gold coins are a simple and safe way to make a precious metal investment. The purity of the gold as well as the weight written on the coin are guaranteed by the Australian government. The coins also constitute legal tender in Australia and they are a very practical way of buying the precious metal.

A special gift and collector’s item

At the same time, Australian Lunar gold coins have a special charm that increases their value above the mere investment. The design of each of the coins features one of 12 animals of the Chinese calendar, making the coins a great gift and collectors’ items. Since the issue of the coin for the year of the Pig, all 12 Lunar gold coins are now available.

Coins for the year of the Pig are especially valuable for people who have been born in the years 1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995 and 2007. According to Chinese culture, people who have been born in a year of the Pig are gallant, honest, generous and intelligent.
